Richard M. Shoup, MD

Dr. Shoup established Sleep Medicine Associates in 2007, the first private practice in Connecticut devoted solely to patients with sleep disorders.

Board certified in Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Internal Medicine, Dr. Shoup began his medical career as a specialist in pulmonary medicine at Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital. A graduate of Dartmouth College, he earned his medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.

Dr. Shoup has served as medical director of the ECHN Sleep Disorders Center at Manchester Memorial Hospital since 1997, and as medical director of the Johnson Memorial Hospital Sleep Center since 2009. He has co-authored journal articles on pulmonary medicine and has presented programs on various types of sleep disorders.

Dr. Shoup and his wife are lifelong residents of Ellington, along with their five children, six goats, two cats, and collie. He enjoys church and family activities as well as bicycling.
